EAST LANSING, Mich. – Senior Meaghan Faucher and junior Sophia Klein earned bronze at the 2018 World University Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China on Sunday, August 12, as members of the United States women's eight boat. Alongside six others, Faucher and Klein's boat was the only U.S. crew to appear on the medal stand at the championships.
"Sophia and Meaghan decided last fall to raise the level of their rowing and attend the national team ID camps," MSU head coach Matt Weise said. "I'm proud of them for pursuing this throughout the last year and putting in the effort this summer to gain valuable experience from international racing. I hope that by their example, more of our athletes see that earning these types of opportunities is within their grasp. I look forward to seeing the improvements that Sophia and Meaghan gained this summer as we begin training next week."
Finishing with a time of 6:22.32, the United States finished behind just Great Britain and Canada who finished in times of 6:19.03 and 6:21.56, respectively.
Other members of the boat included San Diego State's Hannah Broadland, Indiana rowing alumna Emily Wasz, Columbia rowing alumna Charlotte Buck, Rutgers rowing alumna Onyeka Oguagha, Valentine Fey, Southern Methodist rowing alumna Alyssa Sands, and Temple rowing alumna Charlotte Forman.
Faucher and Klein will resume their careers at Michigan State next week in preparation for the 2018-19 season.
