Michigan State Men’s Soccer Continues Exhibitions Hosting Butler Tuesday

EAST LANSING, Mich. - No. 7 Michigan State men's soccer continues its exhibition season, taking on Butler on Tuesday, Aug. 20 at 5 p.m. at DeMartin Stadium. This is the Spartans only home game during the preseason slate.
Michigan State last faced Butler in preseason action in 2017 in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Shindigz National Soccer Festival. The Spartans captured the win 4-1.
In its first preseason game, MSU tied UIC, 0-0 in Chicago. Redshirt-sophomore Hunter Morse made five saves in 60 minutes. There were 21 different Spartans that stepped on the pitch for Michigan State against the Flames.
MSU has a pair of Hermann Trophy Watch List honorees in senior midfielder Giuseppe Barone and redshirt-junior defender Patrick Nielsen. Barone is the reigning Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and a first-team All-American selection last season.
The Spartans ended the historic 2018 season with a 14-5-4 record advancing to their first College Cup in 50 years. Michigan State brings back six starters, including Barone and Nielsen.
Michigan State will conclude the preseason at Xavier on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m.
