         <description><![CDATA[Former Michigan State men's basketball All-American Julius McCoy passed away at age 76 on Friday, April 4, at his home in Harrisburg, Pa. He was born Feb. 21, 1932, in Cheraw, S.C., to the late Rufus and Estelle (Fleming) McCoy. He led Coach Ed McCluskey and his Farrell (Pa.) High School Steelers to basketball prominence in 1952 when they won their first of seven big-school state championships. In his three years at Farrell, McCoy scored 1,471 points, including 726 as a senior when he led the team to a 29-1 record and a victory over Coatsville for the state crown. After high school, McCoy had an illustrious college career at Michigan State, earning All-America, first-team All-Big Ten and team MVP honors in 1956, finishing his career as the Spartans' all-time leading scorer at the time.]]></description>
