MSU Hockey Announcer Jerry Marshall Passes Away
A well-known radio voice in the greater Lansing area, Jerry Marshall had been the voice of Spartan Hockey at Munn Arena since 1972. Marshall also started a weekly radio show with head hockey coach in Ron Mason nearly 20 years ago, which continues today with the weekly Rick Comley Radio Show. His final game at Michigan State was the Spartans' banner-raising ceremony to celebrate the 2007 NCAA Championship on Oct. 19, 2007. He also served as the public address announcer for MSU baseball for several years.

Daultan Leveille Taken 29th Overall in NHL Entry Draft
Michigan State incoming freshman Daultan Leveille (St. Catharine's, Ontario) was selected in the first round of the National Hockey League entry draft on Friday evening by the Atlanta Thrashers. Leveille, who had a final ranking of 47 among North American Skaters in the NHL's final Central Scouting ratings, became the Spartans' ninth first-round NHL draft pick in program history when he went No. 29 overall.

Lerg Earns Academic All-America Honors
Michigan State hockey goaltender Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has been named a First Team Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN The Magazine, in an announcement made on Tuesday, June 10. Lerg becomes the sixth player in MSU history to earn both All-America honors on the ice and in the classroom in the same season.

Vukovic Signs Professional Contract
Senior defenseman Daniel Vukovic (North York, ONT) has signed a three-year professional contract with the Genève-Servette Hockey Club (GSHC) in Geneva, Switzerland. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Kennedy Signs Pro Contract With Buffalo Sabres
Michigan State head coach Rick Comley has announced that Spartan junior Tim Kennedy (Buffalo, NY) has opted to forego his final season of collegiate eligibility and sign a professional contract with the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo general manager Darcy Regier made the announcement of Kennedy's signing on Sunday.

Dunne, Lerg Named to Regional Academic All-America Squads
Five Michigan State student-athletes were named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA 2008 Academic All-Distric teams, as announced today by ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America. Rower Kate Burdick (Ann Arbor, Mich.), field hockey player Jeamie Deacon (Wexford, Ireland) and hockey player Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) are first-team members, while women's golfer Sara Brown (Tucson, Ariz.) and hockey player Jeff Dunne (Grover, Mo.) are second-team members.

Spartan Hockey Names Captains for 2008-09
Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced the captains for th 2008-09 Spartan hockey team. Senior goaltender Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the captain, while classmates Tim Kennedy (South Buffalo, NY), Tim Crowder (Victoria, British Columbia), and Brandon Gentile (Clarkston, Mich.) have been named alternate captains for the upcoming season.

Spartan Hockey Adds Two for Fall
Michigan State hockey coach Rick Comley has announced the signing of Mike Merrifield (Beverly Hills, Mich.) and Ben Warda (Lake Orion, Mich.) to National Letters of Intent. Both players recently wrapped up their seasons with St. Louis of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), helping the Bandits to the NAHL's Robertson Cup Championship.

Jeff Lerg Named Michigan College Athlete of the Year
Michigan State hockey player Jeff Lerg (Livonia, Mich.) has been named the Michigan College Athlete of the Year, as announced by the Detroit Athletic Club on Monday, May 12. The award is given to one male and one female college athlete who has demonstrated excellence in both academics and scholastics, as well as showing strong citizenship through school leadership, community involvement, and volunteerism. Lerg was honored on Monday night (May 12) in a ceremony at the Detroit Athletic Club.
