Monich and Rinks Taken Out In First Round of NCAA Doubles Championships

Michigan State seniors Adam Monich and Nick Rinks fell in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Tennis Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The Spartans were ousted by No. 34 Harvard's Ashwin Kumer and Sasha Ermakov in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4.

Michigan State men's tennis seniors Nick Rinks and Adam Monich have earned an at-large bid to the 2008 NCAA Division 1 Tennis Championships. The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 21-26 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla. The University of Tulsa will serve as host. The senior duo will match up with junior Sasha Ermakov and senior Ashwin Kumer of Harvard in the first round on Thursday, May 22 at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Gophers Hand Spartans First Round Loss in Big Ten Championships

The Michigan State men's tennis team fell to Minnesota, 4-1, in the first round of the Big Ten Championships at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Thursday night. The Gophers jumped on the Spartans early, taking two of three from MSU in doubles. Minnesota then took three matches in singles competition, ending the Spartans' season. Nick Rinks claimed the only victory on the day for Michigan State, avenging a March 4 loss to Raoul Schwark, downing the Minnesota senior in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

The Michigan State men's tennis team has drawn the 10th seed in the year's Big Ten Championships, and will meet No. 7 seed Minnesota in the first round on Thursday, April 24 at 3 p.m. The winner of the opening-round contest will meet second-seeded Wisconsin in Friday's quarterfinals at 2 p.m.

Michigan State Falls to No. 34 Wisconsin In Regular-Season Finale

The Michigan State men's tennis team fell to No. 34 Wisconsin, 7-0, in the team's regular-season finale at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans struggled from the start as Wisconsin swept the doubles competition. MSU fought hard in singles, but the Badgers were too much down the stretch, pulling off victories at all six positions. Junior Scott Rasmussen took his singles match into a super tiebreaker for the third set at No. 5, but came up short in the end, as he lost to Felipe Bellido, 3-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6).

The Michigan State men's tennis team picked up its first Big Ten victory of the season with a 4-3 defeat of Northwestern on Saturday afternoon at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts. The Spartans (12-11, 1-8 Big Ten) fell behind early in doubles, but roared back in singles competition, taking four of six matches. On senior weekend, Spartan seniors Nick Rinks and Adam Monich set the tone, as Rinks breezed passed Northwestern's Marc Dwyer at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Monich picked up the win at No. 4, over NU's Peter Rispoli, 6-4, 6-4.

Men's Tennis Prepares for Two Big Ten Matchups
