Four Spartans Named to Great Lakes All-Region Softball Teams
Michigan State softball continues to earn postseason honors as four Spartans were named to the 2008 Great Lakes All-Region Team on Wednesday, May 14. Senior outfielder Nikki Nicosia received first-team honors, while senior utility player Jessica LeFevre, junior shortstop Gina Monda and redshirt freshman Bianca Mejia garnered second-team nods.

Bracamonte and Weigle Named to Big Ten All-Tournament Team
Michigan State freshman Jessica Bracamonte (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) and junior Kara Weigle (Naples, Fla.) were named to the 2008 Big Ten Softball All-Tournament Team following the championship game at Northwestern's Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston, Ill. The conference honors are the first for Bracamonte and Weigle. The Spartans defeated sixth-ranked Michigan, 2-1, in the opening round before stumbling against Iowa, 13-4, in the semifinals. Together, Bracamonte and Weigle accounted for four of MSU's five total RBI as well as seven of the total 15 hits at the tournament.

Hawkeyes Defeat Spartans in Big Ten Softball Tournament Semifinals, 13-4
Michigan State softball saw its hopes of a Big Ten Tournament title come to an end on Friday, as third-seeded Iowa eliminated the Spartans in the semifinals, 13-4 in five innings. MSU finishes the season with a 27-29 mark, while the Hawkeyes (40-17) advance to the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. Kara Weigle went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Jessica Bracamonte also had two hits in the game for MSU.

Spartans Upset #6 Michigan, 2-1, at Big Ten Tournament
Michigan State softball (27-28) upset the No. 6 Michigan Wolverines (48-6) by a 2-1 score on Thursday in the Big Ten Tournament's opening game at Northwestern's Sharon J. Drysdale Field. The seventh-seeded Spartans are now 3-3 against Michigan in postseason games. Lesley Noel pitched the entire game, and gave up just a single run en route to MSU's upset. The MSU win eliminated the second-seeded Wolverines from the conference tournament.
Michigan State will play third-seeded Iowa Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals. The game will be televised live on the Big Ten Network.

Jessica LeFevre Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team
Michigan State softball's Jessica LeFevre has been named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America District IV First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). LeFevre is the 20th honoree in MSU history, and the 13th to earn a place on the first team. All of Michigan State's Academic All-District IV awards have been earned under current head coach Jacquie Joseph's leadership.

Three Spartans Earn Big Ten Softball Honors
Three Spartans have earned All-Big Ten softball honors, the conference office announced Thursday evening. MSU senior Nikki Nicosia earned a first-team selection as an outfielder, while Jessica LeFevre and Bianca Mejia were selected to the third team, as a designated player and shortstop, respectively.

Softball Opens Big Ten Tournament Against Michigan
Michigan State softball finished the 2008 regular season with a 26-28 overall mark and an 8-12 Big Ten record to tie for sixth with Illinois in the league's final standings. Entering this weekend's tournament, the Spartans are the seventh seed - losing the tiebreaker with the Fighting Illini - and will take on second-seeded Michigan on Thurday, May 8, at 3 p.m. ET at Northwestern's Sharon J. Drysdale Field in Evanston, Ill. The game will be audio broadcast live by Scott Moore at www.msuspartans.com.

MSU Softball Falls to No. 11 Northwestern, 6-1
Michigan State (26-28, 8-12) wrapped its regular season Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to No. 11 Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. The Spartans will begin the postseason back at Northwestern, as the Wildcats host the Big Ten Championship May 8-10. Senior hurler Lesley Noel pitched the entirety of today's game, and finished the regular season 14-18, while NU's Lauren Delaney picked up the win for a 31-8 overall mark.
