The 2019 season will mark the 23rd for former Spartan soccer standout Tammy Farnum in a coaching capacity with the Michigan State program. Following the 2005 season, Farnum was promoted to the position of associate head coach, having served the previous nine seasons as an assistant coach.
Farnum helped guide the Spartans to their first NCAA appearance in school history in 2002 and was also instrumental in helping MSU get back to the tournament in 2005 and 2008.
Prior to her position at MSU, Farnum served as both the head women's soccer coach and women's athletic director at Alma College from 1994-97. From 1992-94, Farnum coached at East Lansing High School. An 18-year Michigan Olympic Development Coach, Farnum has coached six teams to national championships and holds an NSCAA "C" License.
As a Spartan, the former Tammy Anderson was a four-year letter winner, appearing in 75 matches from 1989-92. She registered eight goals and 13 assists from the backline. During her career, MSU racked up an impressive 50-22-3 record. Farnum served as a co-captain in her senior season.
A 1994 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in physical education and exercise science, Farnum and her husband James were married in 2001. The couple has two children, Kate and Jackson.
