Women's Soccer Wins Against Cincinnati, 5-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women?s soccer team netted a victory on Sunday afternoon against Cincinnati, 5-2, at Old College Field on the MSU campus. MSU?s record improves to 5-6-3 overall, while Cincinnati falls to 5-8 overall.
In her second game back after missing two contests with an ankle injury, senior Jessica Moorman (Rolla, Mo.) scored her second career hat trick. Moorman put the Spartans on the board first at 11:49, again at 62:12 and she scored the game-winning goal at 63:52 with an assist by senior Melissa Jannetta (Birmingham, Mich.).
Junior Gina Dawson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) scored the second goal of the game at 23:15, with junior Ann Cieszkowski (Beverly Hills, Mich.) earning the assist. Senior Laura Montecillo (Troy, Mich.) capped off the win by scoring at 85:45, with the assist going to Dawson. Sophomore Amy Simonson scored the first goal for the Bearcats at 40:17 and senior Lauren Clark put in the second goal at 64:21.
?We had chances and we took advantage of them,? said Michigan State head coach Tom Saxton. ?It feels good to be able to capitalize on our opportunities.?
Montecillo led Michigan State with six shots, while junior Lisa Day had four for Cincinnati. Junior goalkeeper Sara Kloosterman (Farmington) recorded a season-high 14 saves for the Spartans, while rookie goalkeeper Katrina Smolarczyk had five stops for the Bearcats. The Spartans face Ohio State in Columbus on Friday at 4 p.m.
