EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men?s tennis team continued its first home action of the fall season on Friday when it hosted the Advantage Spartans Invitational. DePaul, Illinois State, Iowa, Louisville, Western Michigan, and Michigan State are competing in the three day invitational held on the Outdoor Courts at MSU. Goran Topalo (Prague, Czech Rep) went 2-0 against Western Michigan and Depaul competing at No. 2 singles on Saturday. Adam Hourani (Lansing, Mich) was victorious in his singles match beating Depaul 6-3, 6-2 and teamed up with Jimmy McGuire at No. 4 doubles where they won both their matches against WMU and Depaul. No team scores are being kept at the Advantage Spartans Invitational. Matches are set up in a dual meet format with up to eight singles matches and four doubles contests. After two days of competition, the top individuals at No. 1 through 8 singles match up and the same goes for the best records at No. 1 through 4 doubles. The format was designed by MSU head coach Gene Orlando. ?Today was the same as yesterday. I am giving the young guys some action to help better their experience and give them a chance to realize what they need to practice,? said Orlando. Michigan State wound up 4-11 in singles action on Saturday and 2-6 in doubles. The Spartans competed against Western Michigan and Depaul. MSU will conclude its singles and doubles matches Sunday morning at 9:00 am. Play is scheduled for the Outdoor Courts, but will be moved to the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility if there is inclement weather.
