Women's Soccer Falls To UTEP, 4-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State was defeated by University of Texas-El Paso (UTEP), 4-2, Friday afternoon in El Paso. MSU?s record falls to 6-10-3 overall, while UTEP improves to 8-8-2 overall.
UTEP opened up the scoring in the first half, with two goals in less than three minutes. Freshman Kelly Parker scored at 5:52 for the Miners, with freshman Katherine McShane assisting. Senior Janet Esparza then scored at 9:08 for UTEP. Senior Laura Montecillo (Troy) put the Spartans on the board at 28:22, making her third goal of the season. Senior Jessica Moorman (Rolla, Mo.) netted her sixth goal of the season for Michigan State less than four minutes into the second half, with Montecillo earning the assist. Moorman has 14 total points for the season, while Montecillo has tallied nine. Sophomore Stacie White secured the win for UTEP by scoring the last two goals at 69:50 and 79:36.
Junior goalkeeper Sara Kloosterman (Farmington) recorded three saves for the Spartans, while senior Mara Lee (Allison Park, Pa.) came into the game with just under 15 minutes remaining and had one stop. Senior goalkeeper Amanda Smith stopped three shots for the Miners.
Michigan State will finish up its regular season on Saturday, October 30 at 4 p.m. against Pacific at UTEP.
