Spartan Swimmer Finishes Sixth at World Cup Finals

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Katie Duncombe (Erie, Pa.) was the only Spartan to compete in the finals at the World Cup Series in College Park, Md., Nov. 17-18, finishing sixth in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.23) and eighth in the 50 backstroke with a time of 29.93.
In the preliminaries, junior John Munley (Kalamazoo, Mich.) finished 17th in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.67. He also finished 12th in the 400 freestyle (3:57.79) Wednesday, Nov. 17. Sophomore Aaron Mahaney (Easton, Pa.) finished 20th in the 200 butterfly (2:08.73). Senior Dianne Oliver (Louisville, Ky.) finished 24th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.64.
Munley will be representing the U.S. at the World Cup meet in Edmonton, Nov. 19-20 in the freestyle events. The Spartans next team meet is Dec. 2-4, at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
