EAST LANSING, MICH. - Seniors Mike Pisani and Kimya Massey were selected as co-captains for the 2000 Spartan baseball team.
Pisani, an outfielder from Birmingham Brother Rice High School, has been been a starting position player since his freshman year. He enters the 2000 season prepared to make a big mark in the Spartan record books. Last season, Pisani collected 17 doubles, tied for fourth best on the single season chart. In his career, he has 35 doubles, tied for eighth on the career list, 12 out of first place. Through three seasons, he has collected 163 hits. He is also only 75 hits shy of becoming MSU's all-time leader in hits. A versatile team player, Pisani can play the outfield, first base and third base.
Massey has been both a starter and relief pitcher during his career, but expects to start this season. Last year, Massey was named MSU's most improved player. The left-hander led the team and tied for the Big Ten lead in appearances (26) and tied for the team-lead with a 4.85 earned run average. Massey also posted a perfect 3-0 record with two saves. Although not a power pitcher, he did have 33 strikeouts in 42.2 innings of work. Massey is expected to be a powerful presence this year as a Spartan starting pitcher.
