NOTES:
* Michigan State advances to the Great Lakes Invitational championship game, where it will face No. 7 Michigan tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The Spartans are seeking their third consecutive GLI title and eighth overall.
* MSU won its sixth straight GLI game and improves to 30-21-0 all-time in the tournament.
* FR C Troy Ferguson's first-period goal was the first of his career.
* SO D Andrew Hutchinson had gone 16 games without a point (since Oct. 15 vs. Nebraska-Omaha) but registered two assists tonight.
* JR LW Damon Whitten had gone eight games without a goal before his first-period score.
* SR C Shawn Horcoff had two points, moving into a tie with Michigan's Mike Comrie for the national scoring lead. Horcoff has 32 points this season (eight goals and 24 assists), just five points shy of his total from all of last season (37).
* JR D Brody Brandstatter had his first career multiple-point game.
* Michigan State has won 10 of its last 11 games at Joe Louis Arena and 13 of its last 15.
* MSU improved to 13-0-0 when it scores first.
