Crew Closes Fall Season with Excellent Performance

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's crew closed out the fall season with a great performance on Sun., Nov. 1 at the Head of the Elk regatta in Elkhart, Indiana. Team scores in the regatta were a combination of both men's and women's results. MSU's men's and women's crew finished in third place out of 75 teams.
The Spartans received an excellent performance in the open single competition from senior Libby Rockwood, of Barrington, Ill. Rockwood finished second out of 10 in her first singles competition with a time of 17.33.8.
In the novice competition, all three MSU boats finished in the top three. Novice A finished second out of 15, and novice B and C both finished third out of 11 and 14 competitors.
The Spartans also rowed well in the open four, placing third, seventh, and 13th out of 44 boats. In the open eight competition, MSU finished in second and eighth place out of 26 boats.
MSU head coach Bebe Bryans was excited about the performance. "It was a really great day, a great team effort, and it was a great way to finish up the fall. This was exactly what we needed going into our hard winter training," Bryans said.
Because a poor finishing performance can make training less than enthusiastic, Bryans said, "It was the type of performance that can catapult us into the spring (season)."
The Spartans will resume rowing in March, with the first competition of the spring season at the President's Cup regatta on Sat., March 13 in Tampa, Florida.
