Deering Competes in Pole Vault at Florida International

Spartan sophomore Matt Deering (Dowagiac, Mich.) got an early start on the outdoor track season by competing in the pole vault at the Florida International meet on Mar. 13. Deering finished second with a leap of 5.19 meters (17'-1/4"), good for second place on Michigan State's all-time outdoor pole vault list. During the indoor season, Deering twice jumped 5.10 meters, including at the Big Ten Championships, where he placed third.
