Jurcevich and Schell to Compete at USATF Outdoor Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior Jim Jurcevich (Defiance, Ohio) and junior Steve Schell (Dearborn, Mich.) will compete in the 10,000 meter run at the 1999 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Thursday, June 24, in Eugene, Ore. The race will begin at 10 p.m. EDT.
The USATF Outdoor Championships serve as the national championship meet for track & field in the United States. The meet also serves as the selection trials for the World Track & Field Championships in Seville, Spain, in August, 1999. The top three finishers in each event will comprise the World Championships team. Competing at the USATF Outdoor Championships will provide Jurcevich and Schell the opportunity to compete against the best distance runners in the nation, including the top six finishers at the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Jurcevich is a four-time track All-American, including a fifth-place finish at 10,000 meters at the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Championships. His season-time in the 10,000 meter run is 28:45.68. Schell, an All-American at 5,000 meters at the 1999 NCAA Indoor Championships, holds the MSU record at 10,000 meters with a time of 28:39.74. He placed 10th at 10,000 meters at the 1999 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
