Keith Douglas Earns All-American Status

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior gymnast Keith Douglas (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was one of nine finalists to advance to the vault finals at the NCAA Gymnastics Championship at Penn State this weekend. The Spartan standout earned All-America honors with a score of 9.4500, which was good for sixth place in the competition. The top eight athletes for each event earn All-America honors. Douglas advanced to the final round by tying for fourth place with five other gymnasts. He scored a 9.700 in the preliminaries but scores from the preliminaries do not carry over to the finals. The winner of the vault event this year was Travis Romagnoli of Illinois with a score of 9.1725.
Douglas was the lone Spartan qualifier at the NCAA Championships this season. He qualified individually for the vault with a career-high 9.750 at the NCAA Eastern Regional Championships at the University of Massachusetts on April 4. Last season, Douglas also earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish (9.675) at the NCAA Championships in Iowa.
