EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State's men's golf team shot a team score of 288 on Sunday and finished in seventh place at the Big Ten Championship in Minneapolis. The Spartans finished 33 strokes behind team champion Northwestern after shooting a 292-284-300-288=1164 at the 6,254-yard, par-71 Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Junior Carlos Foulquie (Madrid, Spain) led the Spartans with a 74-70-72-72=288, good for a share of 16th place individually. Sophomore Brent Goik (Bay City, Mich.) had MSU's best round of the tournament on Sunday, firing a two-under-par 69. Goik finished in a tie for 42nd with a 78-76-76-69=299.
Seniors Matt Pumford (Saginaw, Mich.) and Alberto Quevedo (Canary Islands, Spain) just missed making the top 20 in the final collegiate tournament of their careers. Pumford tied for 21st at 71-70-76-74=291, one stroke out of a tie for 19th, while Quevedo tied for 26th at 72-71-77-73=293. Redshirt freshman Nathan Clark (Mason, Mich.) rounded out the MSU lineup in a tie for 38th (75-73-76-74=298).
Although the Spartans dropped one spot from taking sixth in the conference a year ago, MSU's team score of 1,164 is the best ever for the school in the Big Ten Championship.
The Big Ten Championship marks the conclusion of Michigan State's season.
