EAST LANSING, Mich - Michigan State's three-round total of 285-282-312=879 gave the Spartans a tie for sixth place in the 19-team field at the Xavier Provident Invitational held on The Grizzly at Kings Isle Mason, Ohio. The Grizzly measures a total of 6,800 yards and is a par 71 course. Michigan State's three-round team score of 879 was twenty-seven-over par and eleven strokes behind tournament winner, Eastern Michigan. Eastern Michigan finished at 16-over par.
Coming off a week without action, sophomore Brent Goik (Bay City) shot rounds of 70-69-78=217 to lead the Spartans. Goik has led MSU in every tournament he has played in this fall.
The Spartans received excellent contributions from senior Matt Pumford (Saginaw) whose opening round score of 67 was a season low. Pumford finished at 67-72-79=218 to tie for 12th place. Adam Walicki continued his fine freshman campaign as he shot a personal three round low score of 74-70-77=221. Jamie Van Ravensway competed in his first tournament of the fall season and shot rounds of 77-79-83=239 to end up tied for 93rd.
The Spartans return to action in two weeks on October 12-13 when they travel to New Orleans, La, and compete in the Tulane Green Wave Intercollegiate.
