Men's Gymnastics Falls to Illinois

CHAMPAIGN, ILL. - The Michigan State men's gymnastics team lost to No. 6 Illinois last weekend with a 229.175-226.050 final. The Spartans posted the best score on vault (38.450) and tied the Fighting Illini's team total on pommel horse (38.100), both good for season highs.
Junior Kenny Baker notched a career best for himself on pommel horse (9.850), to take top honors on that apparatus. Sophomore Troy Takagishi helped MSU to a season high on still rings (37.850), while tying for first place and grabbing a career best with a 9.600. Sophomores Brady Grimm and Jeff Moomaw scored second-place honors and career highs on vault (9.750) and high bar (9.550), respectively. Ryan Trumpinski was the top Spartan finisher on floor (9.650), as was freshman Tommy Housley on parallel bars (9.550).
Also putting up career-best performances: Mike Quarress on vault (9.700) and parallel bars (9.350); Chris Weedon on rings (9.500); and Moomaw on rings (9.200).
The No. 2 Spartans host No. 4 Ohio State Friday, February 23 at Jenison Fieldhouse at 7 p.m.
