EAST LANSING, Mich. - After having its original first dual meet of the season against Louisville postponed, Michigan State looked to open its season on a winning note at the UNLV Tennis Invitational. The Spartans did just that on Friday by downing Northern Arizona 4-3 in the first round. The Spartans took all three doubles matches and split three of the six singles matches.
Michigan State now takes on New Mexico State in the semifinals. New Mexico State advanced by sweeping Nevada, 7-0. The other match-up in the semifinals pits Northeast Louisiana versus host UNLV. Should the Spartans face UNLV in the finals, a marque match-up would be in the works. The number one doubles team in the nation of Asaf Tishler and Gregor Skorin from UNLV would face the number two doubles team in the nation from Michigan State of Ken Kigongo (Bradenton, Fla.) and Francisco Trinidad (Mexico City, Mexico). The finals take place on Sunday.
Michigan States next action following the UNLV Invitational will be when they travel to South Florida and the University of Florida on February 27 and 28.
