East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State University basketball player Andre Hutson will be part of the United States contingent that will play in the Acropolis Cup hosted by the Greek National Team, July 19-21. The Acropolis Cup is a pre-World Championship Tournament and will feature national teams from Poland, Japan and Greece along with a team of U.S. college all-stars.
The team, coached by Ohio State Associate Head Coach Rick Boyages, will open against Poland, July 19, before taking on Japan (July 20) and Greece (July 21). The U.S. team will then play at least two exhibitions against the Greek Team on both July 23 and 24. A possible meeting with the Senegalese National Team could take place on July 22.
The United States squad will train in Columbus before departing for Greece on July 17.
Hutson, a sophomore-to-be in 1998-99, enjoyed a fine rookie campaign for the Spartans last year, starting 26 of 30 games and averaging 7.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. The 6-foot-8 forward shot 61.3 percent (87-of-142) from the floor, the second-highest mark on the team, and also stood second in both free throw shooting (.754) and blocked shots (24).
