Women's Gymnasts Clinch Fourth in Conference Championship

IOWA CITY, Iowa-The Michigan State women's gymnastics team obtained a fourth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships this weekend hosted by Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. The Spartans figured a 194.050, just over a point behind top-scoring Minnesota (195.400). Carolyn Hecht, Chrissy Weathersby and Polly Kiker highlighted Saturday's performances, getting the nod to join the 1998 All-Big Ten Team. Hecht also enjoyed the honor for All-Big Ten all-around, placing third out of 17 with 38.975.
Kiker scored a 9.850 to tie for third place in floor exercise, while Hecht grabbed a 9.825 to tie for ninth. Weathersby concluded her uneven bar routine with a 9.925, also good for a third-place tie. Elisabeth Forshier was the top Spartan finisher on vault with a 9.800, and Kristin Peugeot tied with Hecht for that honor on balance beam (9.750).
