Michigan State Women's Tennis Defeats Western Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team defeated Western Michigan this afternoon, 6-1. The victory improved MSU's overall record to 11-6 (1-4 Big Ten).
In singles, Michigan State won five out of six matches. At the No. 2 position, MSU senior Isabell Oelze was in the third game of her match when her opponent retired due to injury. At No. 4, sophomore Kelli Hayes improved her overall record to 15-2 with a victory over Kendra Becker of WMU, 6-0, 6-3.
MSU swept all three doubles matches to capture the doubles point. At the No. 2 position the Spartan duo of Hayes and senior Brooke West defeated WMU's Cyra Malik and Mindy Champion, 8-4, to improve its overall record to 11-3. MSU sophomore Natasha Skogerboe and junior Brooke Townsend improved their record to 13-5 with a victory over Western's Hillary Schaffer and Nikki Thompson, 8-3.
The Spartans will return to action when the host Purdue at 11 a.m. on Sat. April 10, and Indiana at 10 a.m. on Sun., April 11. Both matches will be held at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
