Michigan State Women's Tennis Team Defeats Eastern Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team defeated Eastern Michigan 6-1 Sat., Feb. 13, at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. MSU is undefeated in the dual-match season with a 3-0 overall record (0-0 Big Ten) while EMU moves to 0-2 on the season.
The Spartans got off to a great start, taking the doubles point after winning two out of three matches. Senior Brooke West and sophomore Kelli Hayes led MSU at the No. 2 position, defeating EMU's Aino Kalervo and Agnieszka Tokarczuk, 9-8 (7-2). Also victorious in doubles was the MSU duo of senior Brooke Townsend and sophomore Natasha Skogerboe, who defeated Lizaan Joubert and Manuela Todorova at the No. 3 position, 8-1.
In singles competition the Spartans were paced at the No. 1 position by West, who defeated EMU's Jean Kansuthi, 6-4, 7-5. At No. 3, MSU senior Isabell Oelze defeated Kalervo, 6-3, 6-3, while Townsend defeated Tokarczuk, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4. Hayes won her third straight match at No. 5, after defeating Todorova, 6-4, 6-2. MSU senior Jaime Tannenbaum defeated Joubert, 7-5, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
The Spartans return to competition on Sun., Feb. 14, when they take on the DePaul Blue Demons at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
