Michigan State Women's Tennis Team Falls To Illinois

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team was blanked 7-0 by Illinois on Sunday, April 25, in Champaign, Ill. The loss dropped Michigan State to 11-11 overall (1-9 Big Ten). With the victory, Illinois increased its winning streak to eight straight, and finished out regular season with a 12-9 overall record (7-3 Big Ten).
Although the Fighting Illini won the doubles point, the Spartans were competitive in doubles with the MSU duo of senior Brooke West and sophomore Kelli Hayes winning at the No. 2 position, 8-6. At No. 3, Michigan State sophomore Natasha Skogerboe and junior Brooke Townsend fell just short of a victory, dropping their match, 8-5.
In singles, MSU senior Brooke West fell just short of a comeback, falling to Illinois' Simone Kung, 6-1, 7-6 (1), at the No. 1 position.
Michigan State will return to action when it hosts the Big Ten Championship Tournament, April 29-May 2 at the MSU outdoor tennis courts.
