Women's Tennis Stuggles at ODU Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The MSU women's tennis team struggled on the second day of the Old Dominion Invitational, with only senior Brooke West and junior Brooke Townsend advancing in singles competition.
Townsend advanced to Sunday's semi-final round of the singles B-flight after defeating Pittsburgh's Dana Jafarian, 6-1, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. She earned a bye in the first round and advanced over American University's Laura Scott, who withdrew from competition, in the second round. West defeated ODU's Luciana Araujo, 7-6, 6-2, in the second round of A-flight competition, before falling to William and Mary's Lindsey Sullivan, 6-3, 6-4, in the quarterfinals.
In the doubles competition, the tandem of senior Jaime Tannenbaum and freshman Julie Gleason were the only Spartans to advance past the first round of competition after defeating Pittsburgh's Carlson and Gardella, 8-0, in the C-flight. On Saturday, the duo lost to Richmond's Croker and Kohl, 8-2, in the third round.
The Spartans will return to competition at 9 a.m., on Oct. 25 for the final day of the Old Dominion Invitational in Norfolk, VA.
