East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State women's soccer senior goalkeeper Sara Kloosterman (Farmington) was named Big Ten Player of the Week on October 9. Kloosterman was rewarded for her efforts last week, when she made 15 saves and recorded back-to-back shutouts against both Northwestern (Oct. 6) and Michigan (Oct. 8). Kloosterman ranks third in the conference in saves (79) and fourth in goals-against-average (0.66).
Kloosterman, who has a string of three-straight shutouts, holds the Michigan State career record in shutouts with 15.5 during her career and 6.5 this season, putting her in second place on the Big Ten shutouts chart. She broke the record of 13 shutouts that was held by Kim Owings (1986-88) and Renee Richert (1986-87) on Oct. 1, when MSU tied Indiana, 0-0.
The Spartans (9-2-2 overall, 4-2-1 Big Ten) look to add to an undefeated home record of 5-0 this season, heading into two weekend match ups at Old College Field. MSU hosts Wisconsin (Oct. 13) and Minnesota (Oct. 15), and currently is in fourth-place in the Big Ten standings. The Badgers are third, with a record of 9-5 overall (5-3 conference) while Minnesota is tied for fifth with a record of 6-6 overall (4-3 conference).
