EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State men's cross country team, after winning back to back team titles in 1997 and 1998 came back to win this year's Paul Short Invitational. The Spartans won the met scoring 65 points, while Cornell (105), Navy (117), Army (124) and St. Joesph's (171) rounded out the top five. There were 36 collegiate men's teams competing in the 8K race.
Villanova's Adrian Blincoe won the event (24:08.83), while the Spartans had three runners finishing in the top ten of the competition. Sophomore Ben Evans (Bloomfield Hills,Mich.)was the top scorer for MSU, finishing the race eighth in a time of 24:47.27. The freshmen duo of Steve Padgett (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Andy Marsh (Grand Ledge, Mich.) placed ninth and tenth. Padgett ran a time of 24:47.79, while Marsh ran 24:48.94.
