Women's Cross Country Takes Fifth At NCAA Regionals

EAST LANSING, MICH. - Michigan State junior Ann Somerville (Ironwood, Mich./Ironwood) placed fifth at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Mich. Somerville ran the 6K course in a time of 20:58.00. The individual title was won by Wisconsin's Erica Palmer for the second straight year, with a time of 20:17.10.
Somerville's fifth place finish qualified her to compete at this year's NCAA Championship at meet, which will be held on November 20 at Ames, Iowa. Teammate freshman Michelle Carson (Winnipeg, Ont./Pickney) placed 13th in region (21:33.2), but will have to wait until Monday to see if she will receive an at-large bid to the NCAA meet.
Wisconsin won the team title, scoring 65 points. Michigan State finished fifth in team competition, scoring 222 points.
