MSU Hockey Claims Top Spot In Polls

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State returned to the top of both college hockey polls after posting three wins in six days last week.

The Spartans, who beat Lake Superior State at Munn Ice Arena last Tuesday prior to sweeping Minnesota and Wisconsin in the annual College Hockey Showcase over the weekend, are the top team in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine and U.S. College Hockey Online polls, released today (Nov. 27). MSU (10-1-2, 7-1-1 CCHA) has been first in the USCHO poll for three straight weeks and overtook Minnesota for the top spot in the USA Today poll.

MSU garnered 265 points and 14 first-place votes in the USA Today rankings. North Dakota is second with 240 points and three first-place votes. Boston College, Michigan and New Hampshire round out the top five. The Spartans received 598 points and 38 first-place votes in the USCHO poll with North Dakota right behind with 527 points and two first-place tallies. Boston College, New Hampshire and Michigan hold down spots three through five.

Last week's College Hockey Showcase foes, Minnesota and Wisconsin, plummeted in this week's polls. The Golden Gophers are seventh in both the USA Today and USCHO rankings while the Badgers fell completely from the top-15.

Other CCHA teams in this week's rankings are Western Michigan (sixth in both polls), Northern Michigan (12th USA Today, 14th USCHO) and Ohio State and Miami (receiving votes in both polls).
