EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State University women's golf coach Stacy Slobodnik has announced that Lauren Gant (Fort Wayne, Ind./Bishop Dwenger HS) has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Michigan State and play golf for the Spartans in 2001-02.
Gant is the younger sister of current MSU senior golfer Kasey Gant.
"Lauren is an exciting and talented player who has the tools to be a very successful collegiate golfer," said Slobodnik. "She will make an immediate impact on our team and help fill the roll that her sister (Kasey) had during her tenure here."
As a senior this fall, Gant earned ISHAA All-State honors after capturing the 2000 Indiana High School state championship as well as the High School Sectionals Championship. She was a 2000 U.S. Junior Qualifier, who advanced to the second round of match play before falling to the eventual champion. She fired a 297 (70-78-76-73) at the PGA Jr. Championship, placing 11th. Gant was also the 1999 and 2000 Indiana Junior Champion and was selected as the Indiana Golf Foundation Junior Player of the Year in 1999.
Gant finished third at the ISHAA state championship as a junior and placed fourth as a sophomore. She was the high school sectional champion as a freshman, sophomore, junior and senior, and was the high schools regional champion as a sophomore.
