Seven MSU Wrestlers Place At EMU Open

EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State wrestling squad saw their first action of the season this past weekend at the Eastern Michigan Open in Ypsilanti, Mich. The Spartans had seven wrestlers finish in the top six of their respective weight classes, including three runner-ups.
Junior Chris Williams (Fowlerville, Mich., who is ranked No. 15 by Amateur Wrestling News and No. 17 by Intermat Wrestling, marched through his 125 weight class, outscoring his opponents 31-8, but placed second after suffering a defeat by Michigan's A.J. Grant, 8-2, in the championship round.
Sophomore Charile Sageman (Bridgeport, Mich.) also took second at 149, defeating No. 15 ranked teammate Karl Nadolsky to advance to the championship match. Sageman was defeated in the final match by Ohio's Percival, 9-3.
Junior college transfer Rashad Evans (Niagara Falls, N.Y.) made an outstanding debut as a Spartan, finsihing second at 184. He advanced through the tournament,outscoring his opponents 19-9 and winning his semifinal match via pin in 3:04.
Senior Joe Cotant (Bloomfield, Mich.) at 184 and freshman Nathaniel Mesyn (Clinton Twp., Mich.) at 174, both placed third in their respective weight classes.
Sophomore Karl Nadolsky (Holland, Mich.) placed fourth at 149, while fellow sophomore Scott Owen (Carlsbad, N.M.) rounded out the Spartan top-six finishers, placing sixth at 174.
The 2000-2001 wrestling squad will be on display this Sunday, November 12 in their annual Green & White scrimmage. The innersquad match-up is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at Jenison Field House.
