EAST LANSING, MICH. - The Michigan State cross country teams are headed to the 2000 NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet this weekend at Eagle Crest Golf Course in Ypsilanti, Mich. The women's 6K is slated to begin at 11 a.m. with the men's 10K to follow at 12 p.m.
The men go into the competition ranked No. 23 in the country according to MONDO/USCCCA polls and fifth in the Great Lakes Region. They will look to Big Ten Freshman of the Year, Steve Padgett (Fr./Cincinnati, Ohio) to have a strong follow-up to his sixth-place performance at the Big Ten Championships.
The women sport the third-best runner in the region in Ann Somerville (Jr./Ironwood, Mich.) whose fourth-place finish in the Big Ten earned her first team All-Big Ten honors.
The two top teams and the top four individuals, not on one of those teams, will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be held on Monday, November 20, at Iowa State University.
