EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team will be at home for a pair of dual matches this weekend.
The Spartans begin Big Ten play at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 against the Fighting Illini of Illinois, and return the following morning, Feb. 27, to take on conference foe Northwestern at 11 a.m. Both matches will be at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility on Mount Hope Road.
MSU got it's first win under new head coach Tim Bauer last Friday, a 4-3 win over Illinois-Chicago at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. Senior Brooke Townsend (East Lansing, Mich.) won the deciding match for Michigan State at No. 1 singles, a come-from-behind three-set victory over UIC's Jacki Farr.
"Our team needs to know what it feels like to win," said Bauer on Saturday, "and this is a step in that direction. It shows that the hard training we've been putting in over the last month is paying off."
Following this weekend's action the Spartans will head to Tallahassee, Fla., for a Mar. 9 dual match against Florida A&M, then return home for duals against Minnesota (Mar. 19) and Michigan (Mar. 25).
