Baseball Loses To Nevada-Reno

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The MSU baseball team lost to Nevada-Reno by a score of 17-2 in their fourth game of the UNLV/Coors Desert Invitational this morning in Las Vegas, Nev. The Spartans are now 1-3 while Nevada-Reno improves to 11-6.
Nevada-Reno started the scoring in the bottom of the first when it scored five runs on five hits, including a three-run home run. No more scoring would take place until the bottom of the fourth when Nevada-Reno added another run.
The Spartans got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore Kyle Geswein (Dayton, Ohio) hit a solo home run to lead off the inning. Nevada-Reno answered in its half of the fifth with one run to make the score 7-1.
Nevada-Reno added two runs in the bottom of the sixth and then seven runs in the seventh inning to make the score 16-1. They would add one more in the eighth. MSU closed out the scoring in the top of the ninth when Joe Albaugh's (Sr., Mt Pleasant, Mich.) single drove in Mike Pisani (Sr., Rochester, Mich.).
MSU used five pitchers in the loss. Starter Dylan Putnam (So., Ann Arbor, Mich.) went three innings, giving up seven hits and five runs.
The Spartans will play one more game today, Sunday, February 27, against Santa Clara to close out the invitational. The game begins at 5:00 p.m. PST.
