Baseball Dominates Siena Heights, 16-3

East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State baseball team pounded out a season-high 21 hits en route to a 16-3 victory over Siena Heights on Tuesday, April 18, at Kobs Field on the MSU campus. MSU improves to 12-23 on the season, while the Saints fall to 14-28.
The Spartans were led offensively by Rick Court (Jr., Grosse Pointe, Mich.), who had two homeruns with four RBI. Court's first homer came in the bottom of the second inning, followed by a homerun to leftfield off the bat of Chris McCuiston (Soph., Birmingham, Mich.). The homer was McCuiston's second of the season.
MSU added four runs in the fifth to increase the lead to 7-1 after five innings. Court hit his second homerun of the game over the rightfield fence to bring in three runs, while Bob Malek (Fr., Canton, Mich.) slugged an RBI double to centerfield earlier in the inning.
In the seventh, Gary Zsigo (Sr., Lennon, Mich.) joined in on the homerun parade, bombing a two-run shot over the rightfield fence. Zsigo now has two homers this season.
Michigan State continued its onslaught in the eighth, scoring seven runs on nine hits. Matt Haynes (Soph., Midland, Mich.) started the inning with a single to center, sparking eight consecutive hits by the Spartans. Mike Pisani (Sr., Rochester, Mich.), Scott Colvin (Jr., Chelsea, Mich.), Joe Albaugh (Sr., Mt. Pleasant, Mich.), Don Watchowski (Soph., Shelby Twp., Mich.) and Malek all had RBI hits for MSU in the inning.
Ryan Golem (Fr., Dearborn, Mich.) started on the mound for the Spartans, pitching five innings on one run and seven hits to earn his second victory of the season (2-1). Mike Hoshield (2-4) got the loss for the Saints.
Michigan State returns to action tomorrow to face the Detroit-Mercy Titans. Gametime is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start in Detroit.
