EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State baseball squad fell to 7-17 on the season following a 10-8 loss to Indiana Tech Sunday afternoon at Kobs Field. With the win, Indiana Tech improves to 11-8 on the year. Sunday's game featured five lead changes and took a 10th inning to complete.
MSU opened up the game's scoring by putting a run on the board in the third inning following a RBI single by Mike Pisani (Sr., Rochester, Mich.) which scored Ted Demetral (Sr., Sterling Heights, Mich.). Indiana Tech would counter in the fourth inning as the Warriors would score four runs off of seven hits and take a 4-1 lead.
In the fifth, the Spartans came back to tie the game by scoring three runs. Pisani once again had a big hand in the inning, as his double to leftfield drove in Troy Bergman (So., Grosse Point, Mich.), Charlie Braun (Fr., Grosse Point, Mich.) and Demetral.
Indiana Tech would reclaim the lead in the sixth by scoring a run to break the 4-4 tie, but MSU would respond in its half of the sixth with two runs of its own to take a 6-5 lead. First baseman Scott Colvin (Jr., Chelsea, Mich.) and outfielder Brett Wattles (Fr.,Rochester, Mich.) both came around to score for MSU.
The Warriors - once again - came back to reclaim the lead with two runs in their half of the seventh, making the score 7-6. The score would stay at 7-6 until the bottom of the ninth inning when Chris McCuiston (Birmingham, Mich.) followed a Pisani double with a game tying RBI single that scored Pisani and pushed the game into extra innings.
In the game's extra frame, however, things did not go the way the Spartans would have liked. Indiana Tech exploded for three runs to make the score 10-7, and MSU could only muster one run in its half of the 10th.
The Spartans will take the day off Monday but will return to Kobs Field Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they will host intrastate rival Central Michigan.
