Men's Golf Set To Host 32nd Fossum Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team is hosting the 2000 Bruce Fossum Invitational Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30. The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. both days at the par-72, 7,003-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 on Sunday. Illinois is the defending champion, while the Illini's Larry Nuger is the defending individual champion. Michigan State's last Fossum Invitational victory came in 1992.
Nine Big Ten teams are participating in this year's tournament, including Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Wisconsin and MSU. While Akron, Eastern Michigan, Iowa State, Kent, Louisville, Marshall, Miami (Ohio), Rhode Island and Xavier round out this year's 18-team field.
Brent Goik (Jr., Bay City, Mich.), Eric Jorgensen (Fr., Big Rapids, Mich.), Nathan Clark (So., Mason, Mich.), Dennis Riedel (Jr., St. Clair, Mich.) and Lorne Don (Fr., Toronto, Ont.) will compete for the Spartans in the Fossum Invitational.
Michigan State's best tournament finish this season was second at the Adams Cup of Newport in Newport, R.I.
This year's tournament will serve as MSU's final preparation for the Big Ten tournament, which takes place next weekend, May 5-7, in West Lafayette, Ind.
