Men's Golf Finishes Eighth At Big Ten Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's golf team shot a final round 313 to finish in eighth place with a team score of 296-306-300-313=1215 at the Big Ten Championships being held at Purdue University's Kampen Course in West Lafayette, Ind. 1999 Big Ten Champion Northwestern repeated as conference champions, finishing with a four-round total of 1160, 33 strokes ahead of second-place Purdue.
Individually, Dennis Riedel (Jr., St. Clair, Mich.) led the Spartan attack, finishing in a tie for 12th place at 73-72-76-77=298, 10 strokes over par. Riedel finished 11 strokes behind Northwestern's Luke Donald who took individual honors at 287, and earned Big Ten Athlete of the Year honors.
Brent Goik (Jr., Bay City, Mich.) fired a final-round 79 for a four-round total of 73-80-74-79=306, good for a tie for 26th position. Eric Jorgensen (Fr., Big Rapids, Mich.) tied for 31st place at 75-79-72-82=308.
Carlos Foulquie (Sr., Madrid, Spain) at 80-75-78-79=312 in a tie for 38th and Nathan Clark (So., Mason, Mich.) at 75-83-82-78=318 in a tie for 50th rounded out the Spartan competitors.
