Spartan Named To Freshman All-America Team

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State outfielder Bob Malek (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Central Catholic) earned a spot on Baseball America's 2000 Freshman All-America First Team. Malek joins a team made up of the College Freshman of the Year, Miami infielder Kevin Howard, and other notables.
Malek led the 2000 squad in several categories including: slugging percentage (.545), homeruns (9) and RBI (58). His .345 average on the season was second on the team, while he finished second in hits (69), doubles (9) and triples (2).
Malek's outstanding performance had already earned him All-Big Ten second team honors and a place on the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team.
