Men's Gymnastics Takes Sixth At Windy City Invitational

CHICAGO, Ill. - The 10th-ranked Spartan men's gymnastics team opened the 2001 season, finishing sixth of seven teams at the Windy City Invitational at the University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 13. Top-ranked Michigan won the meet with a score of 207.550 followed by Illinois (207.200), Ohio State (205.400), Iowa (205.150), Minnesota (202.250), MSU (201.350) and Illinois-Chicago (196.250).
Junior Jonathan Plante (Freedom, Ga.) won the pommel horse with a 9.350, tying for the best score on any event in the entire meet. Plante was fourth in the all-around competition, scoring 50.550. Sophomore Brad Golden (Orlando, Fla.) tied for third on the floor exercise with a 8.900 and was seventh on the pommel horse (8.700) while sophomore Jamie Shepard (Dayton, Ohio) was seventh in the all-around with a 50.250. Junior Marc Chiappetta (Mundelein, Ill.) turned in a fifth-place showing on the rings with a score of 8.850.
The Spartans return to action on January 27, hosting Illinois and Illinois-Chicago in Jenison Field House at 7 p.m.
