Coaches Quotes
Michigan State Head Coach Tom Izzo:
On the game: "I thought it was a good game for us. We got off to a great start, hit a little slump in the middle and in the second half we focused in the best that we have. When you look at some things statistically -- I thought we did a better job of going inside and a better job running our offense."
On the play of the team: "I thought Marcus (Taylor) in the second half did a great job of finding open guys and at the same time pulling up and taking jump shots. Andre (Hudson) really did a heck of a job. Believe it or not, Al (Anagonye) did a great job early on a very good player in (Reggie) Evans. To have Andre, Jason, and Charlie (Bell) back and then have Marcus and Zach (Randolph) score a lot of points in a short period of time. There were a lot of positives for us. The negative being we got out rebounded. Iowa is a good rebounding team. At the end, they were playing paddle ball with us, that is a credit to them.
I thought out assist to turn over ratio was good. We shot pretty well from both the free throw line and the field. Charlie is now having his third game in a row where he is making progress. That is really gratifying and pleasing."
Iowa Head Coach Steve Alford:
On the game: "We got beat by an outstanding basketball team today, obviously we are struggling and still struggling. I thought our freshman got about 70% of our points and 70% of our rebounds today."
On Reggie Evans: "They did a great job defensively and he did not work they way he is suppose to work. Eight turnovers in 22 minutes is extraordinary high. We will have to look at the tape and try to learn from it. I thought he (Evans) and Dean Oliver were pressing early on, and I think they felt like they had to do an awful lot."
On rebounding: "We have been a good rebounding team all year long and that is something that has been a bright spot all season long. Right now we cannot put the ball in the basket, it's pretty simple we cannot score on one end and can't keep it out on the other end."
