Jason Richardson Named Co-Big Ten Player Of The Week

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore guard/forward Jason Richardson (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill) was named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week for men's basketball on Monday, Feb. 19, 2001. In the only Michigan State game of the week, a 94-70 win against Iowa, Richardson scored a team-high 21 points while recording a career-high seven steals. He was 7-of-11 from the field, including 2-of-3 from three-point range.It was the fifth game this season in which Richardson has scored 20 or more points.
Richardson shares Player of the Week honors with Illinois sophomore guard Frank Williams, who averaged 18 points and four rebounds per game in leading the Illini to victories over Wisconsin and Indiana.
This is the second time this season that Richardson has been named Co-Player of the Week. He first earned the honor on Jan. 15 after averaging 19.0 points, six rebounds and three assists in games against Northwestern and Wisconsin.
One of 15 finalists for the Naismith Award and one of 30 midseason candidates for the John Wooden Award and All-America team, Richardson leads Michigan State with 15.9 points per game, which ranks fifth in the conference. He also ranks sixth in the Big Ten in field-goal percentage (.557), 15th in rebounding (5.8 rpg) and third in three-point field-goal percentage (.434).
Richardson and the Spartans return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, against Indiana at 7 p.m. in the Breslin Center.
