The fifth-ranked Michigan State men's gymnastics team will compete against No. 13 Illinois-Chicago on Saturday, February 24, 2001 at 8:00 p.m.
The Spartans faced Illinois-Chicago (UIC) earlier this year (Jan. 22) in a home meet, winning 208.000 to 195.200. Michigan State dominated the match by beating UIC in every event except the vault. The Spartans are looking to do the same at UIC this weekend.
This week the Spartans are ranked fifth in the nation according to Gym Info with a two score average of 210.887. The team is also ranked in the top 10 in each event: tied for seventh on floor (35.075), second on pommel horse (35.800), fifth on rings (35.750), tied for eighth on vault (35.775), sixth on parallel bars (34.425) and sixth on horizontal bar (34.825).
In their last outing on Saturday, Feb. 9, the Spartans fell to No. 3 Ohio State with a final score of 216.450-212.950. Junior Jonathan Plante won the pommel horse title with a score of 9.650, creating a new season high.
Two freshmen topped the still rings, Taft Dorman took first (9.400) and Andrew Davis tied for second (9.250), giving each of them new season and career highs.
