MSU Men's Gymnastics Dominate Against Illinois-Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Michigan State men's gymnastics team defeated Illinois-Chicago, 211.250-202.250, on Saturday night (Feb. 24). The Spartans, as a team, won all but two of the events: floor exercise 34.500, pommel horse 35.500, still rings 36.050 and the parallel bars 34.850.
The Spartans dominated the still rings competition by taking second through seventh place. Juniors Jonathan Plante (Easton, Pa.), Brandon Orna (Roselle, Ill.) and Jason Lewis (Bethlehem, Pa.) set season records in the rings with scores of 9.050, 8.950 and 8.500, respectively.
Plante won the pommel horse with a score of 9.650, tying his season high. Sophomore Brad Golden (Orlando, Fla.) set season highs in both the vault (9.300), finishing second, and the parallel bars (8.900), placing first.
The Spartans will compete next at Arizona State on Saturday, March 3, as they will face Arizona State, Penn State, Stanford, California and Oklahoma.
