EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's tennis team will travel to Florida for its spring break trip and first outdoor matches of 2001. The Spartans will face Jacksonville University on Tuesday, March 6 and 44th-ranked South Florida on Wednesday, March 7.
Last weekend the Spartans faced tough competition with No. 32 Minnesota at home, losing 6-1.. The Spartans also traveled to Western Michigan where they were defeated by the Broncos 7-0, but defeated Valparaiso, 7-0, in their fourth shutout victory of the season.
Michigan State last faced South Florida at the Indiana State Fall Classic. There was no team scoring but the Spartans were defeated with almost all the matches going to three sets.
"The South Florida match will be a big rematch because we lost to them in the fall," said head coach Gene Orlando. "We lost with all close matches. The outdoor practice will help us prepare for the outdoor Big Ten season."
