Last Meet - The Spartans defeated No. 2 Michigan and No. 7 Iowa in the final varsity competition in Jenison Field House with a season high score of 214.450 on Saturday, March 10. Iowa finished second with a final score of 211.200, while Michigan scored 177.750. The Spartans topped every event. Senior Tommy Housley tied with Junior Jonathan Plante for first on the parallel bars with a score of 8.850. Housley also finished second on the high bar with a score of 8.800. Plante finished first on the pommel horse (9.700) for the fifth consecutive meet and first on the high bar with a score of 8.850. Junior Marc Chiappetta placed first on the still rings (9.400). Sophomore Brad Golden took first on both the floor exercise (9.350) and the vault (9.200) and third on the parllel bars (8.750).
In The Rankings - This week the Spartans are ranked sixth in the nation according to Gym Info with a two score average of 212.100. The team is also ranked in the top 10 in each event: seventh on the floor (35.350), third on the pommel horse (35.625), third on the still rings (36.575), eighth on the vault (35.975), sixth on the parallel bars (34.625) and seventh on the high bar (34.875). Individually, Jonathan Plante is ranked first on the pommel horse (9.350), for the third consecutive week. Plante is also tied for 17th on the parallel bars (8.700) and ranked fourth in the all-around (52.950). Brad Golden is fifth on the floor exercise (9.200), tied for fourth on the vault (9.200) and tied for 12th on the parallel bars (8.775). Marc Chiappetta is ranked 10th on the still rings (9.275), while Taft Dorman is ninth (9.325) and freshman Andrew Davis is tied for 13th (9.125). Russell Young is tied for 17th on the pommel horse with a score of 8.950.
