ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to No. 60 Michigan Friday (March 30) in Ann Arbor. The loss brings MSU to a 6-10 overall record and a 0-5 record in the Big Ten.
In singles competition, Kavitha Tipirneni (UM) defeated freshman Caroline Lay (Brisbane, Australia) 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 1 position. At No. 5 singles, sophomore Mollie Hood (Bellaire, Mich.) had a close match against Michigan's Joanne Musgrove, taking the second set to tiebreaker, but losing 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Freshman Trine Lise Juliussen (Oslo, Norway) and partner Lay defeated Szandra Fuzesi (UM) and Kim Plaushines (UM) at No. 1 doubles, 9-8 (4). The win gives the pair the best overall doubles record for MSU at 10-6. The Spartans could not pick up the team point, however, by dropping matches at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.
