Domanick Squires (Rochester Hills, Mich.) pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his fifth save of the season. Bryan Gale (Decatur, Mich.) pitched two perfect innings to earn the win and improve to 5-0 on the season. Grand Valley State's Terry Miller dropped to 1-2 on the season with the loss.
The Lakers struck first in the bottom of the second with three runs. Tony Pfennig and Joey Badall each had RBI singles in the inning. Badall's hit scored two. Michigan State would answer with two runs in the top of the third as a Brett Wattles (Rochester, Mich.) single scored Chris McCuiston (Birmingham, Mich.) and Troy Bergman (Grosse Pointe, Mich.).
